The HiFiMAN HE-500 full-size headphone takes an innovative approach to headphone design, choosing to forgo the traditionally used dynamic driver. Instead a planar magnetic driver is used, where a thin diaphragm is controlled by an array of magnets. The end result is an extremely light and responsive driver, which when used in the HE-500, offers greater precision and reduced resonance.

The voice coil transducers have been upgraded and an improved treatment method applied.
