Asynchronous USB DAC - where the timing of data transfer between the source and DAC is controlled by an onboard clock and not by the computer, is by far the best method of transferring data, reducing audible jitter massively. The Calyx DAC draws it power via the USB connect or an external 12v power supply (included as standard). Usually power drawn from USB is incredibly noisy and we wouldn’t recommend it at all, but the DAC uses an internal regenerative power supply, isolating critical S/PDIF output circuitry from poor quality USB power. The result is consistently pure sound regardless of laptop or computer used.

The Calyx has two clock generators, one for 44.1/88.2/176.4KHz and one for 48/96/192KHz sample rate families. Having two clock generators is the best way of solving the problem that the two sample rate families are not mathematically related, and ensures the timing is perfect.
