The Reference five is the latest DAC fresh out of the labs of Audio Gd!
Using four of the highly regarded PCM1704UK D/A chips, it is fully balanced in design. The chassis has been designed to fit aesthetically with the Roc and Phoenix headphone amps/preamps. This makes a great DAC/headphone amp/pre-amp system, especially as it allows use of Audio Gd's own ACSS connection - the signal is kept as a current, allowing the whole system act as a single gain unit and avoiding multiple gain stages and impedance mismatches. Further, the need for expensive cable matching is negated as only the ACSS cable is needed. As ACSS is used internally throughout the unit, both the XLR and RCA outputs benefit, resulting in a more neutral, distortion-free signal.
The Reference Five utilises Audio Gd's own digital signal processor, the DSP-1 (version 5), to ensure extremely low levels of jitter and zero feedback. Two carefully shielded R-core transformers are used, with nine groups of voltage regulators allowing for a purer power delivery. Even the control circuit is powered with a separate regulator to ensure silent operation with no background noise. Both the digital and analogue L/R channels are separated internally, reducing drastically any interference and distortion.
Inputs are provided by USB, coaxial and optical. ACSS, 3-pin XLR and L/R RCA provide the outputs for the Reference Five.
